Western Nevada College has three new exhibitions opening in the Carson Galleries today. They will run from Feb. 14 through March 25.
In the Main Gallery is “Great Basin Work,” a sculptural exhibition by Nevada artist, Larry Williamson. His sculpture plumbs the Great Basin Desert for imagery and materials.
Inspired by the desert landscape that has surrounded him his whole life, he carves and creates extraordinary images out of aged pieces of wood that he finds lying on the floor of the Great Basin. His sculptures—sometimes small, sometimes as tall as a man—are fabrications of his mind and his materials. Larry Williamson’s work is shown at WNC courtesy of the Stremmel Gallery in Reno.
The reception for the artists will be this Wednesday, February 16 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. The artists and writers will be present at the reception to answer questions and talk about their work. To read more in the Nevada Appeal.
