Marc Katano and Nicole Katano: One by the Other

Shared exhibit of works on paper and digital imagery

The Edge Gallery is pleased to present works on paper by Marc Katano and the digital imagery of Nicole Katano, opening on May 28, 2010.

One might easily overlook the underlying synchronicity that Nicole and Marc Katano have developed through their 30-year journey as partners in life and contemporaries in art. At first glance they are a study in contrast.

Marc, winter personified. Nicole, autumn’s abundance.
Her butterscotch curls. His jet back hair tinged with white.
Marc, understated. Nicole, vibrant.

This synchronicity might not be immediately apparent in “One by the Other”, the Katano’s first shared exhibit presented by THE EDGE Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Marc’s precise and disciplined calligraphically influenced works on paper invite contemplation and reflection; Nicole’s lush and effusive diptychs reach out and embrace.

On closer observation, the pairing of Marc Katano’s precise expressions of the natural motion of hand and arm with Nicole’s ethereal and vivid digital images reflects their singular and individual perspectives, as well as their mutual trust, admiration and shared sense of restraint and balance.

“One by the Other” will include selections from Marc Katano’s most recent series of works on paper. One piece from the series has been acquired by the Achenbach Foundation at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Legion of Honor. In addition to Nicole’s diptychs, copies of the book “What You Speak is Seeking You”, which is illuminated with many of her images will be available at the Gallery.
