November 14 – December 19, 2020

Stremmel Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Bill Kane and Nolan Preece, on view from November 14 to December 19, 2020.  The exhibition is the second for both Kane and Preece, respectively, at Stremmel Gallery.  The opening reception will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14.  Both the exhibition and reception are free to the public.

Nolan Preece has referred to his work as chemical painting, and he has adapted techniques from photography’s infancy and invented his own new methods for creating images.  In his chemigrams, the artist works with resists and photographic chemicals for developing and fixing the image to achieve a wide range of complex, fascinating effects, which are then digitally enhanced.  They move as if of their own volition to form imaginal domains and virtual vistas, which shift from fluid to concrete, are abstract yet enigmatically charged.

Bill Kane’s Emanation series are contemporary works derived from traditional Buddhist deity images which are distilled down to its most elemental form: color.   The works are digitally scanned, blurred, color-enhanced, and juxtaposed on paper.  It is the intention – the hope – that these resulting abstract works, conceived of as representations of light spiritual bodies, maintain the lineage of their transcendent seed images and continue to rain blessings on all who observe them.
