The virtual explosion of art in downtown Napa continues, with the city’s redevelopment agency proposing to buy a circular work of stainless steel for a planned pocket park at Third Street and Soscol Avenue.

Agency staff is recommending the purchase of a piece titled “Moonrise” for $42,000. It will be a focal feature at Riverfront Green, a sliver of a park along Soscol Avenue, south of Third Street.

Using property tax revenues from downtown, the Napa City Council expects to award a contract this spring for the park and sculpture. The agency has budgeted $740,000 for the project.

This will be the Napa Community Redevelopment Agency’s first public art commission since the 1970s, when a half-dozen pieces were acquired for Dr. Dwight Murray Plaza and surrounding public areas near First Street. To read more.
