Confluence—meaning “the coming together of two things” or, geologically, “the meeting point of two rivers”—perfectly encapsulates this exhibition of landscape paintings. Featuring the work of Phyllis Shafer and Ahren Hertel, both accomplished artists, the show invites viewers to explore the unique intersections of their respective styles. While Shafer’s paintings predominantly focus on the serene landscapes around Lake Tahoe, Hertel’s work captures the rugged beauty of Northern Nevada’s high desert. The artists painted together on location in Hope Valley, just south of Lake Tahoe, and at Fort Churchill Historic State Park, near Carson City. The exhibition includes both collaborative pieces started on location, and individual works reflecting each artist’s distinct approach to the American West.
